Kāne Solo Competition

Ke Kāne `Ōlapa Division:    This division is open to individuals from the age group of 13 years and older.

The Kāne solo competition will challenge the skills of the kāne in hula kahiko, hula `auana and an optional hula pa`ahana (implement) category.  This solo competition is an open competition and is not limited to only one soloist per halau.  You may enter only the solo competition as a halau, and up to 2 soloist in the division.  This is an optional category to enter in solo competition only.  In this category, you must enter a hula kahiko with implement, as well as a hula `auana (with an implement).  The implement used in your hula kahiko must be traditional.  An implement used in your hula `auana, may be other than traditional since the hula `auana is the "modern" hula.  Since this is an optional category to enter, there will be a single overall award given to the soloist scoring the highest points overall, and must have a minimum of 2 entries to proceed.  The points scored in the optional hula pa`ahana category will be included in the overall halau score towards the perpetual award since this is an optional category.
